I got the official memo.
I am no longer allowed to fish in Area 55.
I have to move out - fish getting scarse I'm warned.
I have to haul up gear and skedaddle immediately.
No hanging around trying to catch any sort of fish whatsoever.
The decree from on high says
I have to relocate to Area 56 ASAP, at the stroke of mid-night April 6th.
Apparently, the license in the new fishing zone is for the next 365 days,
unless I decide to quit fishing altogether, god-forbid.
Now Fishing Area 55 wasn't a bad spot, a few unexpected by-catch creatures, but fairly smooth sailing for the most part; and the harvest was bountiful when you count your gratitudes - even the choppy waters and the navigational equipment going on the blink now and then were always instructive.
The memo explains that not only has the resource dried up for me in
Area 55, but because I got a bigger and more seasoned boat now, I'm compelled to move to Area 56 or my license will expire.
I was going to protest, hold a rally, storm a building, curse and swear, lower the flag and/or commission a report,
But apparently, it would be to no avail.
There would be no reversal of this decision.
And worst still, no option for an appeal.
The vague note did not disclose what species of fish I could catch in Fishing Area 56, what the resource biomass would be like there, what gear type I would require, if I needed to consolidate, if EI was an option should the fishing fail: nor did it reveal the fees I would have to pay to fish there for the year. It merely wished me good luck.

Hmmmm...... Now, if I am suppose to make a viable enterprise out of Area 56, surely the memo should have stated some specifics. For Christ sake! there must someone up there that knows what's going on and provide me with some answers or even clues. Surely to God, they don't expect me to head out into uncharted waters without a business plan or flying by the seat of my pants? How the hell is my big jib supposed to draw if I don't know how to rig the sail in the first place.
The only bit of advice the short memo provided was to upgrade to higher technology. Instead of using heart apps and the common sense the good Lord gave me, it suggests using brain apps and to keep an eye on the bottom line.
Not advice I'm likely to take, but sounds like fishing in Area 56 is going to be an adventure, trying to navigate these unmapped waters. I'm up for the challenge!
I'm just taking care to bring along my trustable backups in the boat for Area 56 - like a life raft (friends), life jackets or personal floatation device (family) radio (good health) and good lighting (wine). You can never be too careful when you are in unexplored waters. Makes sense to stock up on essentials that will keep you afloat when you most need them.
The main thing is I'm still fishing. With this rusty older and slower boat of mine, just being out on the glistening sea water is a beautiful thing in itself - fish or no fish!
